NEW YORK—
Americans for the Arts has announced the winners of its annual National Arts Awards, which honor members of the arts community who “exhibit exemplary national leadership and whose work demonstrates extraordinary artistic achievement.”
The 2008 honorees include
Yoko Ono, winner of the Kitty Carlisle Hart Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts, and
Kehinde Wiley, who was chosen for the Young Artist Award for Artistic Excellence. Other winners are
Sounds of Music star
Julie Andrews, philanthropist
Joan W. Harris, musician
Phil Ramone, and
J. Barry Griswell, chairman of the Principal Financial Group, which supports a variety of arts programs.
The honorees will receive their awards at a gala dinner on October 6. The evening will feature an installation by
Jennifer Steinkamp.
