LOS ANGELES—The Getty Institute has announced the formation of an online database intended to monitor and inventory archaeological sites throughout the Middle East, the New York Times reports.
The project, known as MEGA-J, or the Middle Eastern Geodatabase for Antiquities, will contain information in Arabic and English and will start by gathering and standardizing information on Jordanian sites. The project is jointly organized by the Getty Conservation Institute, the World Monuments Fund, the Jordanian Department of Antiquities, and the Iraq State Board of Antiquities and Heritage. |
