SALONIKA, Greece—A cache of 1,400 ancient graves has been unearthed in the process of excavating for a new subway site in the northern city of Salonika, reports Agence France-Presse. Found under a historic Jewish cemetery, the burial sites date back to the fourth century B.C. and house an array of clay vessels, gold jewelry, glass perfume holders, and coins from Persia spanning an 800-year period. The new discovery continues a recent trend in Greece, with four gold wreaths and a pair of gold earrings having been found in the grave of a woman more than 2,000 years old back in June.
