EDINBURGH—Visual artist Martin Boyce has been selected to represent Scotland at the 2009 Venice Biennale. It will be the fourth time that Scotland has participated in the Biennale, but the first time they're sending a solo exhibition. For previous editions, Scotland produced group shows including projects by Turner Prize winner Simon Starling and current Turner Prize nominee Cathy Wilkes.

Boyce's work consists of atmospheric sculptural art inspired by modernist design history. His work is currently on view at the Sculpture Center in New York, and an installation, Our love is like the earth, the sun, the trees and the birth (2002), is being displayed at the Gallery of Modern Art in his hometown of Glasgow.
