The fixation on feet at the Watermill Center’s annual summer benefit in the Hamptons was even greater than that of Charlotte York’s shoe salesman in a famous episode of Sex and the City. One of Sex’s stars, Kim Cattrall, at left with Robert Wilson, left her heels at home in favor of flat but fashionable gladiator sandals. Good move, Samantha. Navigating the grounds of Wilson’s cultural laboratory entailed walking uphill along an unpaved path, crossing the smooth stones of a courtyard and ambling down pebbled lanes with cocktails firmly in hand. Artist Jonathan Meese staged a performance in the woods around the center, but the “real show,” according to one sensibly shod art world veteran, was watching the women in their Jimmy Choos trying to get around—and keep their balance.
