KIEV—Russian steel billionaire Victor Pinchuk has named Eckhard Schneider, former director of the Kunsthaus Bregenz in Austria, new director of his Kiev art center, reports Bloomberg.

The center, the first private museum of contemporary art in Russian, houses Pinchuk's collection of contemporary art, including works by blue-chip artists Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, and Andreas Gursky.

"Many wealthy people want to amass a trove of art treasures to stash away, but Victor Pinchuk has a vision to share his collection with society," Schneider told Bloomberg. "This is why I want to work with him." Schneider replaces Dmitri Logvin, who is now the museum's executive director.

Pinchuk told Bloomberg that he was one of the buyers at Hirst's two-day, straight-from-the-studio sale at Sotheby's London earlier this month.

"Over the past year, I've acquired works by my favorite artists," he said. "I bought Gursky, Koons, Murakami, Hirst, and Kiefer. Yes, I bought at the recent Hirst auction, but I won't name works. You must wait until spring when I'll display new acquisitions."
