Stuart Regen, founder of the influential Los Angeles gallery Regen Projects, died in 1998 at age 39. The gallery was the first to promote and exhibit "next generation" artists Lari Pittman, Charles Ray, Raymond Pettibon, Matthew Barney, and Catherine Opie. "This new program at the New Museum honors his legacy of risk-taking and his unique talent, boundless curiosity, and passion for ideas," said Lisa Phillips, director of the New Museum. "The purpose of the series is a reflection of Stuart's interest in the quality and power of conversation, as well as his dedication to new ideas." |
