By ARTINFO

Published: October 8, 2008
NEW YORK/LONDON—Two weeks ago, "Catherine Opie: American Photographer" opened at the Guggenheim Museum. On hand to celebrate were Opie herself, John Waters, Ron Athey, and many others. The mid-career survey of almost 200 of the photographer's works continues through January 7, 2009. [To listen to a podcast and virtual tour of the show with the artist, click here. Also, the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) last week opened in its new — and controversial — building at 2 Columbus Circle; and at the Louise Blouin Institute in London a few weeks ago, the Art After Dark project — a series of art events taking place every Thursday evening for 10 weeks — staged its ninth event: sound, installation, and video artworks from contemporary Russian artists. Alexander Ponomarev, Hermes Zygott, and Yuri Kalendarev were among those who contributed to the show.
