CLAREMONT, Calif.—The late Marjorie and Leonard Vernon’s extensive photographic book collection has been donated by the collectors’ daughter, Carol Vernon, and her husband, Robert Turbin, to Scripps College in Claremont, reports the Los Angeles Times. The cache of 3,000 books and journals includes entire sets of periodicals and rare volumes on photographers such as Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, and Walker Evans.

According the press release, Susan Rankaitis, noted photographer and a professor of studio art at the college, emphasized the significance of the donation: “For many of us who are artists, gallerists, curators, or simply lovers of photographic art, Marjorie and Leonard Vernon were the heart of the photographic community in Southern California.”

Vernon and Turbin also recently gave a related set of 3,500 photographs to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in a gift/purchase arrangement.
