Cooking with Art / Holland & France

By Steven Stern

Published: September 1, 2008
Holland & France—“Food, food culture, food as culture and the cultures that grow our food”—that’s the tagline of Debra Solomon’s website Culiblog, and a neat précis of the work by this American-born, Amsterdam-based artist, designer, and chef. From her “mobile snacklab and culinary embassy” Lucky Mi Fortune Cooking, designed by 2012 Architects of Rotterdam, she dishes up multiethnic snacks made with local produce and recipes. All October, it’s at Imagine IC, a cultural center in the diverse Bijlmer neighborhood. Then, putting aside her chef’s toque, she’ll curate a symposium on food as a design issue at the St. Etienne International Design Biennial.

St. Etienne International Design Biennial: November 13–30; citedudesign.com. "Cooking with Art" originally appeared in the Fall 2008 issue of Culture+Travel. For a complete list of articles from this issue available on ARTINFO, see Culture+Travel's Fall 2008 Table of Contents.
