Carnegie Museum Creates Photography Department and Appoints Chief Curator

Linda Benedict-Jones will be the chief curator of the Carnegie Museum of Art's new photography department.

PITTSBURGH—The Carnegie Museum of Art has announced the creation of a department of photography and appointed Linda Benedict-Jones as its chief curator, Flash Art reports. Benedict-Jones has been the executive director of the Silver Eye Center for Photography since 1999. She will begin at the Carnegie on December 15. Her first show at the museum is scheduled to open in summer 2009. She will also plan a traveling exhibition with guest curator Howard Bossen.

LONDON—Frieze Art Fair has announced that Thelma Golden and Sabine Breitwieser will be the 2008 guest curators for the Outset/Frieze Art Fair Fund, which enables the Tate to buy significant works by emerging artists at the fair. Golden is the director and chief curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem; Breitwieser is an independent curator and the general secretary of the International Committee of ICOM for Museums and Collections of Modern Art (CIMAM). According to Artforum, they will select this year's works in conjunction with Tate curators Ann Gallagher, Jessica Morgan, and Frances Morris.
