Editor's Picks: Frieze Art Fair Preview

LONDON—The dreaded “R” word could soon be a factor in the art world, which means it’s only a matter of time before it begins to affect the proliferation of art fairs around the world. But can the credit crisis reach one of the most lauded and big-monied gatherings of contemporary dealers, the sixth edition of the Frieze Art Fair, scheduled for October 16–19 in London? If the recent straight-from-the-studio-to-the-auction-block single-artist sale of Damien Hirst’s work at Sotheby’s London is any indication, high-end contemporary art may be immune from these uncertain times. At least, that’s what everyone is hoping, with fingers crossed.

But enough market talk. What about the art? This photo gallery of selected images from 21 galleries out of 150 accepted into the fair shows no discernible trend, other than what has dominated the art world for quite some time, which is: anything goes. This curated grouping of work for sale — with prices — gets you inside Regent’s Park tent before the fair opens. Get a jump on the competition and stake your claim on some of the fair’s most eye-catching works.
