LONDON—This past weekend, London’s Serpentine Gallery closed its 2008 pavilion, designed by Frank Gehry, with the gallery’s third annual Manifesto Marathon. Among the artists presenting their manifestos for the 21st century in what the gallery called a “two-day futurological congress” were such artists Yoko Ono, Gilbert & George, Ben Vautier, Elaine Sturtevant, Terence Koh, Hilary Koob-Sassen, Athanasios Argianas, and Marina Abramović; as well as architects, scientists, writers, historians, film directors, philosophers, designers, and musicians.

According to the Independent, on Saturday Gilbert and George reiterated their manifesto from 1969, the "Laws of Sculptors," which includes such rules as "Always be smartly dressed, well groomed, relaxed and friendly, polite, and in complete control"; "Make the world to believe in you and to pay heavily for this privilege"; "Never worry, assess, discuss or criticize, but remain quiet, respectful, and calm"; and, "The Lord chisels still, so don't leave your bench for long."

On Sunday, musician Brian Eno set out his principles, including a call for a new political party called the Thank You Party.
