The seven winners of the Greater Milwaukee Foundations Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for individual artists have been announced, reports Artforum.
Receiving $15,000 fellowships in the established artist category are: Brent Budsberg and Shana McCaw (a collaborative team), Xav Leplae, and Iverson White. In the emerging artist category, Tate Bunker, Bobby Ciraldo, and Andrew Swant (applying as Special Entertainment), Frankie Latina, and Barbara Miner will receive $5,000 each. All of the winners will take part in an exhibition in the fall of 2009 that will include a catalog to be circulated nationally.
A total of 132 applicants entered the sixth annual competition, juried by Valerie J. Mercer, curator of African-American art and head of the General Motors Center for African-American Art at the Detroit Institute of Arts; Laurel Reuter, director and chief curator of the North Dakota Museum of Art; and Eva González-Sancho, director of the Fonds Régional d'Art Contemporain — Région Bourgogne in Dijon, France.
