Hot Spot: Paris

Published: December 1, 2008
In the City of Light, a corner turned can introduce a whole new collecting specialty. On the Right Bank, the Marais has contemporary art from heavy hitters Thaddaeus Ropac, Emmanuel Perrotin, Yvon Lambert and newcomer Pierre-Alain Challier. The Left Bank’s Carré Rive Gauche area, known for antiques and older art, has fast-forwarded around the rue de Lille: Almost 25 galleries there show 20th- and 21st-century art, decorative arts and design. A few streets away in Saint-Germain-des-Prés is an enclave of tribal arts, not to mention the Art Deco stalwarts Arc-en-Seine and Vallois, and ’40s-design stars Downtown, Jousse and Patrick Seguin; recently they’ve been joined by Kreo, Jacques Lacoste and Kamel Mennour. Bienvenue!
