Published: November 20, 2008

For all the whispering about the downturn in the art market, and what effect it may have on the fair circuit, one fair seems to be sitting pretty: The Armory Show. The New York mainstay announced its list of exhibitors for 2009 today, and the news (so far, at least) looks good. The exhibitor total is up from 160 last year to 222 this year, with the greater part of that increase thanks to the 63 inaugural participants — all but two are first-timers — in the new section dedicated to modern art, to be housed on Pier 92. But the main, contemporary-focused portion has also held its own, with 159 participating galleries, 113 of which took part last year. Of the 45 that will not be returning, it's unclear which opted not to return and which simply didn’t make the cut for 2009.

Here’s a list of who’s who for the 2009 Armory Show: who’s returning, who’s not, and who’s new on each pier.
