Predrive: After Technology

"Predrive: After Technology" at Mattress Factory (Pittsburgh)
Through March 22, 2009

Chains of ones and zeroes make up much of today's reality — the words you're reading right now, for example. This exhibition, guest curated by Melissa Ragona, brings together six international artists who mine, chop, suture, stitch, and otherwise mangle binary coding to artful ends. Using online detritus, such as JPEGs, video streaming, or 3-D gaming, artists including Takeshi Murata, Brody Condon, Paper Rad, Gretchen Skogerson, and Antoine Catala reflect the "aesthetics of immediacy." Their online projects, video installations, and performances seek to complicate the instant gratification we expect from our skimming, scanning ways.

"Predrive: After Technology" originally appeared in the December 2008 / January 2009 issue of Modern Painters. For a complete list of articles from this issue available on ARTINFO, see Modern Painters' December 2008 / January 2009 Table of Contents.
