Artists David Weiner and Angie Lee are hosting a bake sale at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, in order to help raise funds for the floundering museum, reports the Los Angeles Times blog Culture Monster. Running from noon to 2 p.m. today, the sale directly precedes a much-anticipated meeting of MOCA's board of trustees.
The baked goods on offer are based on artworks from the museum's permanent collection and include Giacometti-style baguettes, cakes with Jasper Johns and Judy Fiskin images on top, Vija CelminsNight Sky brownies, and iced graham crackers based on works by Lawrence Weiner and Christopher Wool.
In addition to the aforementioned pastries, which will all sell for a $1 apiece, there will also be French financier cookies, which Weiner and Lee describe as "little gold bars of almond cookie joy." The financiers are going for $1 million each. As Culture Monster writes, "No word yet on whether member's discounts will be available."
