E.H. Shepard's "He went on tracking, and Piglet...ran after him" sold for £115,250, setting a record for a drawing by the artist.

LONDON—A collection of original drawings by E.H. Shepard for A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh books fetched around £1.3 million ($2 million) at Sotheby's London on Wednesday, topping pre-sale estimates, reports Reuters.

The image He went on tracking, and Piglet ... ran after him sold for £115,250, more than doubling its pre-sale estimate of £40–60,000 and setting a record for a drawing by the artist.

The second best earner of the night, Bump, bump, bump — going up the stairs, earned £97,250, also well above expectations of £40–60,000.

The 41-lot sale, titled "'That Sort of Bear': E.H. Shepard's Winnie-the-Pooh From the Collections of Stanley J Seeger and Christopher Cone," earned £1,262,863 total.

"The public have a strong affection for these drawings, and we are thrilled that this significant collection has notably exceeded expectations," said Philip Errington, Sotheby's specialist in charge of children's literature and illustrations.
