Thirty artworks worth an estimated $250,000 were stolen from a gallery in Berlin's upscale Charlottenburg neighborhood on New Year's Eve, reports the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
The works, which include Picasso's 1947 Profil au Fond Noir and Matisse’s 1913 Nude in a Rocking Chair, were on loan to the private Fasanengalerie and were to be shown in an exhibition scheduled to open mid-month.
German police are searching for the works and have asked international authorities to keep an eye out for them as well, as they believe the thieves will try to sell them on the international market.
