In his New Year's address, French President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that those under 25 will soon receive free admission to the country’s national museums and monuments, reports the Associated Press.
The announcement comes after a six-month period from January through June of last year when 14 of the country’s museums offered free admission to all. Sarkozy’s new measure is scheduled to go into effect April 4.
Sarkozy also announced plans for the creation of a new museum of French history. This “Maison de l'histoire de France” will bring currently existing museums, monuments, and research centers together to mount major exhibitions on historical subjects, reports Reuters. The location of the museum has yet to be disclosed but according to Sarkozy will be in a site “emblematic” of the country’s history.
