The Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (MCASD) and the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art (BGFA, located in the lobby of the Bellagio Hotel) have collaborated to mount the exhibition “Classic Contemporary: Lichtenstein, Warhol, & Friends,” Artnet reports. Opening January 23, the show is an endeavor by the gallery to transition into a more progressive space; the BGFA has previously been devoted to old masters and early modernists. Works on loan from the MCASD collection include pieces by HansHofmann, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, Frank Stella, Clyfford Still, and Andy Warhol.
Additionally, the Las Vegas Sun reports via Artnet that the BGFA has recently initiated a “Modern Council,” hoping to gain members from the failed Guggenheim Las Vegass “Young Collectors Council.” MCASD director Hugh Davies will be organizing a personal guided tour of the “Classic Contemporary” exhibition for council members.
