The Annenberg Space for Photography is preparing for its opening with the exhibition "L8S ANG3LES."
LOS ANGELES—The
Annenberg Space for Photography, a new gallery funded by the philanthropic
Annenberg Foundation, will open on March 27 with the exhibition "L8S ANG3LES," the
L.A. Times blog Culture Monster reports.
The exhibition, which runs through June 20, showcases Los Angeles photographers. The 8 in the title refers to the number of artists whose prints will be displayed in the traditional gallery, who include John Baldessari, Catherine Opie, Greg Gorman, Douglas Kirkland, Tim Street-Porter, Julius Shulman, Lauren Greenfield, and Carolyn Cole; the 3 refers to the number of Los Angeles Times photographers whose pictures will be projected in a digital gallery: Lawrence K. Ho, Genaro Molina, and Kirk McKoy.
The 10,000-square-foot Annenberg Space is conceived as a community-oriented photography center. It comprises a traditional gallery that wraps around a central project room as well as video stations where visitors can watch and listen to interviews with artists.
The gallery's second show will be "Pictures of the Year," a group of award-winning images by photojournalists, on view from July to October. After that will be an exhibition of works by sports photographers Walter Iooss and Neil Leifer.
