NEW YORK—The
New Museum of Contemporary Art has announced the 50 artists to be included in the first edition of its new triennial, "The Generational: Younger Than Jesus." Selected based on recommendations from a network of 150 curators, bloggers,
artists, and critics worldwide, the participating artists include
Cory Arcangel,
Mohamed Bourouissa,
Tauba Auerbach,
Faye Driscoll, and
Luke Fowler.
"Younger Than Jesus" is intended to showcase art with youthful and global perspectives. All 50 artists are younger than 33 and hail from 25 different countries.
"The New Museum has always been a platform for the new," said director Lisa Phillips. "We have given important early exposure to artists at the beginning of their careers, from Keith Haring to Adrian Piper, and Ana Mendieta to Jeff Koons — artists who subsequently changed the course of art."
"Younger Than Jesus" is being billed as the first exhibition to showcase artists born around 1980. It will be on view from April 8 through June 14, 2009.
