Koolhaas Building in Beijing Damaged by Fire

Home of China Central Television (CCTV), the 51-story building was reportedly burning from the ground to the top floor. Flames were first spotted at 7:45 p.m. local time and within 20 minutes had spread throughout the building. There's no word on the cause of the blaze, but today marks the last day of lunar new year celebrations in China, and the city had been filled with fireworks. There's also no word so far on whether there are any injuries. In addition to CCTV, the building houses a 241-room Mandarin Oriental hotel that was to open this year. |
