SAVANNAH, Ga.—The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) has announced that it is opening a branch in Hong Kong, reports Xinhua news agency. This will be the school’s first Asian location and its second abroad, after one in Lacoste, France. In the United States the college has branches in Savannah and Atlanta.

The SCAD Hong Kong campus, which is expected to open in fall 2010, will be housed in the former North Kowloon Magistracy building in Sham Shui Po.

The school will offer degrees in various disciplines with an emphasis on digital media and visual effects.

“SCAD will be the first U.S. university to establish a degree-granting campus in Hong Kong, and we believe SCAD-Hong Kong will become the preeminent site for the study of digital media in Asia,” said the school's president and co-founder, Paula S. Wallace.
