Disputing previous reports that he is looking to donate his rare book and publications collection to the Morgan Library and Museum, Richard Prince has told Artnet that the story, which originally ran in the London Sunday Times, is not true.
"I have never talked to anybody at the Morgan about this possibility and have never talked to any reporter about this possibility," he said via e-mail.
According to Artnet, Tony Allen-Mills, of the London paper, wrote his report based on an interview with Prince in Bookforum. The author of that piece, Geoff Nicholson, wrote that Prince is "negotiating to donate [his collection] to the Morgan if they let him have an exhibition for a couple of years." Bookforum claims that the piece was reviewed by Prince before publication.
The collection in question includes many rare items, including a signed first edition of James Joyce's Ulysses and Vladimir Nabokov's personal annotated copy of Lolita.
A spokesperson for the Morgan said he had no knowledge of the deal.
