Backhanded Comment

Published: April 1, 2009
Tennis legend John McEnroe was finding fault at the Gala Preview of the Art Dealers Association of America’s Art Show in February. He even delivered a version of his "You cannot be serious!" line-judge rant. The champ, seen at the event with Verona Middleton-Jeter of the Henry Street Settlement and the New York dealer Roland Augustine, was overheard saying, "I’m waiting right now. It should be a buyer’s market — but it isn’t." Was it telling that McEnroe then cast an eye on Antony Gormley’s Another Time VII in Sean Kelly’s booth?
