Haunch of Venison's new hires, from left: Gen Watanabe, Barrett White, and Emilio Steinberger
Steinberger comes from the New York branch of Paris’s Yvon Lambert gallery, where he served as senior director for two years after running the Robert Miller Gallery in the same city for five. He brings with him the German sculptor and installation artist Günther Uecker, who was associated with the Zero group in the 1960s; the Minimalist painter Enrico Castellani, whom the gallery has slated for a solo show in May; and the estate of the Pop artist Tom Wesselmann. "I think Haunch is well positioned," says Steinberger. "For these artists it’s important to take a long-term approach." White left New York’s L&M Arts to return to Haunch, where he had worked before its New York space opened to the public last fall. Watanabe began his career running the New York office of Takashi Murakami’s company, Kaikai Kiki, and later ran the Miami space owned by the Paris dealer Emmanuel Perrotin. Haunch co-founder Harry Blain calls his three new hires "part of the ongoing and long-term strategy to enhance the existing team in New York."
