LOS ANGELES—On March 14, Los Angeles's
REDCAT (the Roy and
Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) held its five-year anniversary gala. The organization, which focuses on cutting-edge art and theater, raised more than $500,000 at a party honoring artist
Barry McGee and philanthropist
Robert Egelston with REDCAT Awards, as well as
CalArts president
Steven D. Lavine for 20 years of his service to the school. Those who showed up to drink, eat, and mingle included actress
Natalie Portman; billionaire philanthropist
Eli Broad;
Olga Garay, executive director of cultural affairs for Los Angeles; and artists
Catherine Opie and
Mark Bradford.
Also, the Artparis 09 modern and contemporary art fair ends today, and ARTINFO stopped by over the weekend to check it out, snapping a few pictures along the way.
