The Society for Modern Art at the Museum Ludwig Köln has announced New York–based artist Christopher Wool as the winner of its 2009 Wolfgang Hahn Prize, Der Standard reports.
The honor, named after the Cologne restorer and collector Wolfgang Hahn, is awarded annually to an avant-garde contemporary artist whose work is underrepresented in the museum's collection; as part of the acknowledgment, the museum purchases a work or series of works by the winner, who is also given a solo show.
Included in Wool's exhibition, on view April 20 through July 12, are 30 large-scale paintings, prints, and the 160-part photographic series "East Broadway Breakdown."
