Spring Benefits Begin

Published: April 20, 2009
NEW YORK—Here in New York, spring benefit season is upon us, and the Drawing Center in SoHo got the party started last week with a gala on tax day. The event drew a nice crowd of some 270 people and managed to raise $375,000. Big names in attendance included artists Kiki Smith, Brice Marden, Donald Baechler, Rob Wynne, and Pat Steir, the evening's honoree, as well as poet Anne Waldman.

The next night, ARTINFO swung by several events in Chelsea. We were on hand for a dual opening of works by Jeff Bark and Ryo Toyonaga at Charles Cowles Gallery; the start of John Copeland's "Old Glory" at Nicholas Robinson Gallery (through May 16); the kick-off of the group show "MAKE" at Ricco/Maresca (through May 16); and the opening of Judith Murray's "Continuum" at Sundaram Tagore (through May 23).
