American Academy of Arts & Sciences Announces 2009 Class

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Eleven individuals from the fields of visual art and architecture are included in the American Academy of Arts & Sciences' 2009 class of Fellows and Foreign Honorary Members, the academy announced this week.

According to an academy newsletter, nine of the 11 were named Fellows, including: photographer William Eggleston (New York), art historian Jeffrey Hamburger (Harvard University), artist Ann Hamilton (Ohio State University), artist Michael Heizer (Nevada), Carol Mancusi-Ungaro (Director of Conservation at the Whitney Museum and Director of the Center for the Technical Study of Modern Art at Harvard University), artist Malcolm Morley (New York), structural engineer and professor Guy Nordenson (New York/Princeton University), and architects Ricardo Scofidio and Michael Sorkin, both of New York.

Meanwhile, two of the inductees, art historian John Elsner (University of Oxford) and recent Pritzker Prize–winner Peter Zumthor (Switzerland), received Foreign Honorary Member status.
