Fairey, Scharf Create Art Bikes for Lance Armstrong

Published: May 6, 2009
If Shepard Fairey can design a poster for Barack Obama that could catapult him to the White House, why not design a bike for Lance Armstrong to help him to win the upcoming Giro d’Italia race?

Fairey, who is embroiled in a very strange and getting stranger by the second lawsuit, has designed a new yellow and black bike for Armstrong, according to the Mediabistro blog UnBeige. He’s not the only one: Damien Hirst is designing a bike for the Tour de France, and Kenny Scharf is designing another Giro bike. Armstrong will ride the bikes and then auction them off in October.

This is not the first time that the star athlete has teamed up with Fairey and Scharf. He is an outspoken fan of Fairey's art, and both artists have work included in Armstrong’s traveling "Stages" art exhibition, the proceeds of which will benefit Armstrong's namesake foundation.
