New York Roundup

Published: May 18, 2009
NEW YORK—As always, New York is constantly buzzing with art-related events — so many it's hard to keep up. Here, ARTINFO rounds up a handful from the past two weeks, including:

- A May 12 United Nations ceremony where artist Ross Bleckner was named goodwill ambassador for the international peacekeeping organization

- A dual-exhibition opening, of sorts, at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, on May 7: for a preview of the Elton John AIDS Foundation's first limited-edition photography portfolio along with Adriana Varejão's new show, "Two Paintings and Ten Drawings," on view through July 10

- A reception at the Upper West Side gallery Susan Eley Fine Art on May 7, for the gallery's latest exhibition, "New Work by Amber George & Kentaro Hiramatsu," through June 26

- A May 7 opening for the Gawker Artists program's spring Art@Gawker exhibition, which features the work of Brooklyn artist (and ARTINFO designer) Carrie Villines in the Gawker Media headquarters

- And shots from David Zwirner's Alice Neel exhibition opening last Thursday in Chelsea, as well as P.P.O.W's kickoff of Melanie Bonajo's show "As Thrown Down from Heaven" (both through June 20)
