Clement Greenberg tapped into the art world zeitgeist over drinks at New York’s Cedar Tavern. New York magazine’s Jerry Saltz has found an Internet-age replacement: Facebook. Saltz joined the social-networking site last fall and uses it for interactive research. One post asked his 4,660 friends to list major artists who emerged after 1999. The hundreds of responses were a bit much — Saltz even chided curators for repeating their colleagues’ answers. Nevertheless, he’s still gunning for the cyber version of a packed gallery opening, recently posting, "So, does anyone know how one goes about removing the Facebook cap on 5,000 friends?"
