Pitt Picks More “Make It Right” Architects

Published: May 20, 2009
NEW ORLEANS—Brad Pitt has selected more architects for his Make It Right project, which he created to rebuild 150 houses in New Orleans’s Lower Ninth Ward following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina, the Architectural Record reports.

Eight firms are preparing schematic designs that will be released June 20. They range from a young New Orleans collective to world-renowned Gehry Partners. There was no official competition; the architects were selected through informal recommendations from Pitt and Make It Right consultants.

The firms are Gehry Partners, William McDonough + Partners, Atelier Hitoshi Abe, Los Angeles–based Kappe Architects/Planners, Chilean studio Elemental, and three New Orleans firms: Bild Design, buildingstudio, and Waggoner & Ball Architects.

In 2007 Pitt commissioned 13 architects to design houses for the highly publicized project. Make It Right has raised funds to sponsor 91 homes. Eight are finished already, and another 13 are in various stages of execution.
