Richard Prince Wraps Hong Kong Museum in the Name of Vuitton

Published: May 22, 2009
HONG KONG— Taking a page from the book of artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Richard Prince has wrapped the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Straits Times reports via asiaone.com. Perhaps predictably, Prince's material of choice is not fabric or rope but replicas of pulp-fiction novel covers.

The project, in the vein of Prince's "After Dark" series, is one of Hong Kong's first public art installations. It marks the start of a summer exhibition at the museum titled "Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation," which features work by a host of contemporary artists, including Prince, Basquiat, and Koons, and runs today through August 9. The building covering, which took a week and more than 20 people to install, will stay up throughout the exhibition.
