Aspen, Colorado Through July 19 If you thought silent films were only a thing of the past, think again. This month three generations of artists will have their silent film and video works displayed in the laconically titled exhibition "No Sound," which features 15 diverse works brought together by the absence of noise and the mesmerizing effect of intense focus such absence provokes. A highlight of the exhibition will be the works of younger artists like David Noonan in dialogue with the iconic works of artists like Bas Jan Ader, giving a sense of the medium’s legacy and evolution in contemporary art. The exhibition includes rarely seen works by Doug Aitken, Trisha Donnelly, Guy Ben Ner, Nancy Graves, and Marcel Broodthaers, all of whom will present the peculiar thrall of silent celluloid. "No Sound" originally appeared in the Summer 2009 issue of Modern Painters. For a complete list of articles from this issue available on ARTINFO, see Modern Painters' Summer 2009 Table of Contents.
