St. Ann’s Warehouse is searching for a new space as it makes way for a housing and school project.

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—A highly regarded theater that has played a major role in Brooklyn’s cultural scene for nearly 30 years is looking for a new home to stage its innovative productions.

Plans call for the 14,000-square-foot warehouse space in Brooklyn’s Dumbo section now occupied by St. Ann’s Warehouse to be turned into an apartment complex and school. St. Ann’s, best known for presenting groundbreaking work from the experimental Wooster Group, supports the project and is working with its developers to find a new space. Ideally, the theater will find another space in Brooklyn, such as the nearby Tobacco Warehouse on the waterfront, but it would consider Manhattan as well, its artistic director says. St. Ann’s is hoping to find a large, open warehouse space that is physically and acoustically suited to the kind of distinctive theater it does, such as last summer’s Macbeth.
