LOS ANGELES—For "Bitch Is the New Black," Honor Fraser gallery is calling on the talents of 14 Los Angeles-based women artists selected by the curator Emma Gray. Among those included in the show — named after a phrase Tracy Morgan coined on Saturday Night Live when discussing Hillary Clinton’s rise to political prominence in 2008 — are Cathy Akers and Catherine Opie. Akers is known for her photographs, in which she documents women relieving themselves while standing like men. Opie is celebrated for her poignant pictures, whether of family members, such as her son, Oliver, or of strangers: In her ’90s series, "Portraits," she snapped individuals from the queer communities of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Other mediums featured range from sculpture to video, but the artists who employ them all have one thing in common: attitude.
