A 1939 Auto Union C-Type Grand Prix estimated to fetch $8 million at Bonhams & Butterfields
MONTEREY, Calif.—
Vintage-car aficionados motor to Monterey and its environs every August for a round of auctions coinciding with the
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This year, on the 13th,
RM Auctions is holding a sale of the
Nick Alexander Collection of wood-bodied station wagons, including an award- winning, fully restored 1932 Ford with ash and maple paneling (est. $125-150,000); on the 14th and 15th is its
Sports and Classics of Monterey auction, which contains a 1934 Miller V16 race car (estimate upon request).
Bonhams & Butterfields, in its August 14 auction, is offering a race-proven 1939 Auto Union D-Type Grand Prix, with a rear-mounted three-liter, twin-stage, supercharged V12-cylinder engine, that was driven in competition by the legendary
Hans Stuck (est. $8 million). And among the highlights of
Gooding & Company’s August 15 and 16 auctions is a streamlined 1937 Bugatti Type 57C Coupe (estimate upon request).
