Apr. 29: International Modern and Contemporary Art 116 lots sold for $4,766,175
New York DUBAI—Top lot: The Wall and the Script, 2007, a sculpture by the Iranian artist Parviz Tanavoli that combines traditional Persian calligraphy with modern Minimalist form, brought $218,500 in a sale dominated by Middle Eastern buyers. NEW YORK—Top lot: Once owned by TV’s singing cowboy Roy Rogers, this C. F. Martin & Co. guitar, made in the 1930s, brought a record price of $554,500. Rogers was still just an average Joe going by the name Leonard Slye when he paid $30 for the guitar at a California pawnshop in 1933.
