Fairey’s Latest Campaign Poster

Published: June 24, 2009
LOS ANGELES— Street artist Shepard Fairey has moved from Pres. Barack Obama to another political figure for his next poster. This time he's turned his propaganda-inspired artmaking skills to Burmese dissident Aung San Suu Kyi, a human rights activist who won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work fighting the dictator Than Shwe.

Fairey created the poster of Suu Kyi with the Human Rights Action Center and the U.S. Campaign for Burma, which are planning a concert in Los Angeles in late fall to raise awareness for Suu Kyi’s democracy movement. The red, black, and beige image reads “Freedom to Lead” as well as "Support Human Rights" and "Democracy in Burma."
