LOS ANGELES—Betina Tasende, of the Tasende Gallery in La Jolla and West Hollywood, has been appointed the new president of the Fine Art Dealers Association, replacing Howard Rehs of the New York–based Rehs Galleries after his 12 years with the organization. Among Tasende's goals will be to increase membership nationally and internationally and to develop the Los Angeles Art Show on an international scale. The show is the FADA's flagship event, this year drawing 35,000 visitors and more than 130 exhibiting galleries.
AMSTERDAM—Ann Goldstein has been appointed the new artistic director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, according to the Associated Press. Goldstein, currently senior curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, will begin her tenure at the Stedelijk Museum in 2010, when the museum will re-open after being closed for a significant renovation. She takes over for Gijs van Tuyl, who has served as artistic director of the Stedelijk since 2005. SINGAPORE—Tan Boon Hui has been named the next director of the Singapore Art Museum, the city-state’s National Heritage Board announced. Tan will begin on August 1, taking over for Kwok Kian Chow, who in April was named director of Singapore’s National Art Gallery. Tan is currently the deputy director of programs at the National Museum of Singapore and has over 13 years of experience in the arts. At the art museum, he will focus primarily on developing the contemporary-art department. PHILADELPHIA—The Philadelphia Museum of Art has announced its selection of Timothy Rub as the next director and chief executive of the museum, beginning in September. Rub, a specialist in architecture and modern art, currently leads the Cleveland Museum of Art, where he has been since 2006. In Cleveland, he oversaw the museum's capital project and fundraising campaign, the reinstallation of the European and American art collections, and the first phase of the museum's seven-year renovation and expansion project. Before working in Cleveland, he directed the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College. The selection of Rub comes a year after the unexpected death of Anne d'Harnoncourt, who directed the Philadelphia museum for 26 years.
