You just can’t get away with stealing a Munch, even if you were only an accessory.
Bjoren Hoen has been convicted in Norway of involvement in the 2004 theft of two Edvard Munch masterpieces, The Scream and Madonna. The Oslo Court of Appeals sentenced him to two and a half years in prison, even though he didn’t actually participate in the heist but rather helped obtain the vehicle the thieves used when stealing the paintings from Oslo’s Munch Museum. Two other men have been imprisoned and ordered to pay restoration costs for the paintings, which had to undergo repairs after they were recovered in 2006.
