Couple to Showcase Art Collection in New Miami Space

Published: June 30, 2009
MIAMI—This city’s art scene is gaining a major new space, courtesy of a local collector couple who want to showcase their world-class collection of contemporary art.

Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz hope to open the museum-like structure, now under construction, to the public during Art Basel Miami Beach this December. The 30,000-square-foot warehouse space, located at 41st Street at North Miami Avenue, will allow Rosa will organize the Key Biscayne couple's extensive international collection and to rotate pieces on display there. The de la Cruzes also want to permanently install works by two Cuban-American artists with Miami connections: the late Félix González-Torres and Ana Mendieta, who they believe deserve more recognition in South Florida. Other artists to be featured prominently include American Jim Hodges, Argentina's Guillermo Kuitca, and Gabriel Orozco of Mexico.
