California Group Supports Visual Artists
Published: July 2, 2009
These are tough times for artists and for California, but 14 Californian artists are getting a break: fellowships from the California Community Foundation. In association with the Getty Trust, the foundation announced yesterday that 10 midcareer visual artists would each receive $20,000 to further their works, and four younger creators will each get $15,000.
"Funding for the arts is often the first thing to go when times are tough, so it's critical that we continue supporting these important artists at a time when they need it most," said Antonia Hernandez, the foundation's chief executive. "We're proud to be one of the largest supporters of individual artists in the region."
