Period Garb Gains Free Admission to See Rembrandt Exhibit

Published: July 13, 2009
SANTA ANA, Calif.— Those willing to dress up as Rembrandt, or in any other form of Renaissance period garb, can get in for free this Wednesday at the Bowers Museum as part of its celebration of the Dutch master’s 403rd birthday. A leftover costume from a Shakespearean stage production or a Renaissance fair spares visitors the $12 regular admission ($9 for seniors and students).

A summer exhibit titled "Sordid and Sacred: The Beggars in Rembrandt's Etchings" just opened at the Bowers, best known for its cultural-history shows of Asian, Oceanic, and ancient artifacts, and features 35 rare etchings executed between 1629 and 1654. They can be seen admission-free the first Sunday of each month, without the dress-up requirement.
