This fall China will host a festival of Asian and European art that will include a book and audiovisual fair, a film week, an art exhibition, a stamp and paper currency exhibition, and a forum on cultural development and cooperation. Artists, art groups, and scholars from 45 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) members have been invited to the event, which was proposed by China at last October’s ASEM meeting in Beijing.
The book and audiovisual fair will be the biggest component of the September 2-8 event, with more than 50,000 books, audio, and video products from about 350 Chinese and foreign publishing houses, covering such topics as literature, art, history, and education, on display. Among other things, the Beijing festival is intended to enhance exchange and cooperation between Asia and the European Union, a Chinese Foreign Ministry official said.
